Be In The Know!
The Access study, “A Statewide Examination of College Access Services and Resources in Virginia,” is complete! The study is the first of its kind to be conducted in the Commonwealth and over 450 access providers were identified across the state. To view and download the full study, click here. We also created an “access brochure” which provides a few of the study’s highlights. If you would like to view and download the access brochure, click here.
Have you visited the I-am-the-One website? It is a great site and full of helpful information for students, parents/guardians, and counselors. Please visit and complete the survey!
We would like to welcome two new access providers to the College Access Challenge Grant Program (CACGP): Access College Foundation and GRASP. We also want to give a special thank you to all our partners and participants.
Overview of the College Access Challenge Grant Program
In August 2008, the U.S. Department of Education awarded to Virginia funding for the College Access Challenge Grant Program (CACGP). The CACGP is a two-year formula grant program designed to foster partnerships among federal, state, and local government entities and philanthropic organizations to significantly increase the number of students who enter and remain in postsecondary education. A priority of the grant is to provide services and activities to students and families who live below the poverty line.
Virginia’s campaign, “Information is Key to Access and Success,” is designed to increase awareness and knowledge of post-high school educational endeavors by providing necessary and needed information to students (with an emphasis on students from low-income families) and their families “where they are.” A host of initiatives will include workshops, television programs, parent information sessions, in-school advising, and internet-based web portals. Information is provided on the importance of education beyond high school graduation, career planning and choices, and clarifying how to apply for, finance, enroll, and succeed in post-high school educational endeavors.
